Whole class experience

CMS offer our schools whole-class musical experiences encompassing all the musical families. These projects last around a term per year group and can be grouped into a rotating session of three disciplines to provide a full and immersive experience.

Whole Class Instrumental

Highlighting pBuzz, JSax, Doods, Recorder, Ukulele, Violin.

CMS whole-class lessons provide an opportunity to learn the basics of an instrument in a whole-class learning context.

Whole Class Singing

Whole-class singing lessons provide a fun musical learning context. Lots of engaging warm up activities and musical games are interspersed with learning fun and enjoyable songs. The warm-up activities develop good vocal technique along with warming up the voice and body for singing and providing a focused start to the lessons. A wide range of styles and song types are covered, including songs that complement the topics being covered in the curriculum for the term.

Whole Class Music Technology Projects

New for 2023/2024 CMS are delivering exciting Music Technology projects in Turntablism and GarageBand for iPad. These projects are aimed at years 5 & 6 pupils.

Turntablism

Pupils using turntables

The Turntablism project provides each pupil with their own vinyl turntable, on which they learn Scratch DJing techniques used by professional DJs. Pupils learn to read notation, and develop performance and composition skills.

The Turntablism package includes full loan of turntable equipment, teaching resources and a day of professional learning for the school staff who will be delivering the project.

Garage Band

The GarageBand for iPad project is only available to schools that have their own class sets of iPads (at least 1 between 2 pupils). In this very engaging project, pupils learn many technical skills of navigating and using the features of GarageBand’s live loops section. They will explore a range of musical genres, learn a broad range of technical and traditional musical vocabulary along with composing and performing pieces using a special form of graphic notation.

The GarageBand project includes the hire of a class set of headphones, and splitters, however the school must provide their own set of iPads with the latest version of GarageBand installed.

1st Experiences

The First Experiences programme is part of the National Plan for Music Education. This programme will provide a free term of whole-class tuition to year 3s. We are currently offering it on various instruments depending on the tutor delivering the project.
